Did you try running all axis the same speed? I still think it's the settings for Max. The early version needed to be set just right or it would go where ever it felt like. Do you have a signal gnd from the driver to Max? I'm asking a bunch of ?'s because it's hard to figure out what's going on when I can't see it.
