I have a brand new homemade mill and I'm still trying to get the bugs out of the hardware and learn the software. I'm using WinXP kcam 4.0.0.47 USB to serial cable MaxStepper 4.0.4 Maybe 50% of the time kcam would hang when I pressed OK, Apply, or Cancel on the Table Setup or Port Setup windows. I waited for several minutes and the hourglass never went away. The problems only happened when the mill was connected and everything was powered up. Windows task manager would show very high cpu usage for kcam. I know I'm getting some noise on the Estop and limit switches, causing a false input after 10-30 seconds and I'm still working on that. The kcam hangs seems to have gone away when I jumpered Estop to ground right on the max stepper board. Maybe that will help in identifying where kcam is looping. If there are any other experiments you would like me to do, please let me know. Larry |

If you find that your stop and limit switches are causing "noise" and your getting false readings. try adding a .1 Mf ceramic capacetor across the controler board where the switch is attached.(between the switch contact and ground) I found this cured my same problem. |

Please check the Application Priority in the Table Setup. It should be set to Normal. Also, check the Port Setup window, MaxStepper tab for communication errors. You should have zero errors. If you have any, the port needs examination for noise. |

At present, I've got the the limit switches disabled in the setup pages and the estop grounded out and the mill is working. Either today or tomorrow I will re-enable the all those switches and try to recreate the hang. If it does hang, I'll try to see what the port setup page says. However I usually had to kill kcam with an Alt-F4, so I may not be able to get that info. Thanks Larry |

Open the Port Setup window prior to testing so you can see it if it hangs. |
